After assessing bus routes today, we found that while our majority of our roads are in excellent condition, several challenges remain, including low-hanging tree limbs and multiple parked cars in cul-de-sacs and turnarounds. To ensure the safety of our students and drivers, we believe it would be beneficial for drivers to complete their routes after daylight hours. With the expected sunshine tomorrow, we anticipate more melting to occur, further improving turnaround conditions. We kindly ask that, if possible, keep cul-de-sacs clear of cars to help our buses navigate turnarounds safely. Thank you for your understanding! Due to current impact of the winter storm, all Spencer County Schools, Tiger Cub Village, and our Central Office will be closed tomorrow, January 6, 2025. As a reminder, tomorrow was already designated as a District Professional Development Day for staff, so no classes were scheduled for students. We will continue to monitor the storm’s impact, including potential power outages, and will make a decision regarding school for Tuesday, January 7, 2025, as soon as possible.

As always, the safety of our students and staff is our top priority when making decisions regarding school closures. Due to the number of driver call-ins this morning, I am required to create a double route. This primarily impacts Routes 21 & 22. I have outlined the adjusted schedule below. ATC Update: All Spencer County students who were at the ATC have loaded the bus safely and are in route back to Spencer County High School. Thank you for your patience and understanding.

We are aware that Shelby County High School is currently on lockdown. The ATC is also on lockdown, and we have students present at the ATC. We are awaiting further communication from Shelby County Schools and local authorities. We will keep you updated as we receive more information. Thank you.

Thursday night, 10/24, the SCHS Educator's Rising group is hosting a Trick or Treat event at SCHS. Kids of all ages are invited to Trick or Treat through the hallways. We will have food trucks, groups passing out candy, face painting, and concessions. #togetherSC

Spencer County Community; I hope this message finds you safe and well. As you know, our area faced a significant weather event that resulted in the cancellation of school on Friday, September 27, 2024. While decisions like these often prompt varied opinions, the safety and well-being of our students and staff will always be our top priority. On Friday, several of our schools—TES, SCHS, SCMS, and SCES—did experience power outages, and some areas within Spencer County were without power into the weekend. Any time that one of our schools goes without power there are obvious safety concerns, challenges serving meals, and loss of communication. Additionally, I realize that communication on Friday morning was not as smooth as it should have been. I apologize for any confusion or frustration this may have caused. We went to work on getting the issue rectified immediately and were able to identify and correct the cause that led to some not receiving the notification email/text/call on Friday morning. To be certain, we will be conducting tests over the next two weeks to verify that any remaining issue(s) have been corrected prior to Fall Break. Lastly, we will be required to make up for Friday’s cancellation. We will address that in the future as we gain a better handle on the impact of winter weather over the coming months. School Closing Announcement: Tiger Cub Village will be CLOSED today, September 27th, 2024.

Spencer County Community; Due to the forecasted wind speeds and potential for flooding, Spencer County schools will be closed on Friday, September 27, 2024. The National Weather Service forecast indicates potentially unsafe conditions for our students and staff that will affect both arrival and dismissal. We will address and communicate make-up information at a future date. TigerCub Village will be open. A decision on extracurricular activities will be made by midday.
