Our Office of Educational Technology has been made aware of a hazardous trend circulating on social media platforms, particularly TikTok. Students are being encouraged to insert conductive materialsโsuch as pencils, aluminum foil, or paper clipsโinto USB and other ports on school-issued Chromebooks. The intent is to create sparks and smoke, often leading to fires.
This behavior poses significant health and safety risks. Tampering with electronic devices can cause short circuits, potentially igniting fires. Such actions can render Chromebooks inoperable.
We urge all parents and guardians to have immediate conversations with their children about the dangers of participating in this or any similar challenges.

This Derby season, the horses arenโt the only ones chasing greatness; you could be too! Spencer County Schools is hiring district-wide with open positions in transportation, maintenance, classrooms, administration, and more. If youโre ready for a stable career, this is your moment. Donโt wait at the starting gate; reach out to one of our Personnel Specialists today to learn more and get started! ๐
See you soon!
