Due to the snow accumulation overnight and its impact on some roads across the district, Spencer County Schools will utilize Non-Traditional Instruction (NTI) Day #8 today, February 20, 2025. Due to the forecasted inclement weather expected to impact our area tonight through tomorrow, 𝐒𝐩𝐞𝐧𝐜𝐞𝐫 𝐂𝐨𝐮𝐧𝐭𝐲 𝐒𝐜𝐡𝐨𝐨𝐥𝐬 will utilize 𝐍𝐨𝐧-𝐓𝐫𝐚𝐝𝐢𝐭𝐢𝐨𝐧𝐚𝐥 𝐈𝐧𝐬𝐭𝐫𝐮𝐜𝐭𝐢𝐨𝐧 (𝐍𝐓𝐈) Day #7 tomorrow, 𝐅𝐞𝐛𝐫𝐮𝐚𝐫𝐲 𝟏𝟗𝐭𝐡, 𝟐𝟎𝟐𝟓. A decision regarding extra-curricular activities will be made tomorrow. Tiger Cub Village will make an independent decision and communicate with their families accordingly. Stay safe and warm!

After assessing multiple areas across the county, 𝐒𝐩𝐞𝐧𝐜𝐞𝐫 𝐂𝐨𝐮𝐧𝐭𝐲 𝐒𝐜𝐡𝐨𝐨𝐥𝐬 𝐰𝐢𝐥𝐥 𝐛𝐞 𝐢𝐧 𝐬𝐞𝐬𝐬𝐢𝐨𝐧 𝐭𝐨𝐦𝐨𝐫𝐫𝐨𝐰, 𝐅𝐞𝐛𝐫𝐮𝐚𝐫𝐲 𝟏𝟖, 𝟐𝟎𝟐𝟓. Floodwaters have receded along all bus routes, with only a couple of exceptions where alternate transportation plans have already been communicated to families. All drivers have been instructed to use extra caution and remain alert for potential ice patches due to lingering drainage along roadways. Additionally, we are closely monitoring the forecast as another round of winter weather is expected tomorrow night into Wednesday morning. Our team will participate in National Weather Service updates this afternoon, evening, and throughout tomorrow to stay informed on potential impacts. In the meantime, we encourage students, staff, and families to prepare for a possible Non-Traditional Instruction (NTI) later this week, should conditions warrant a schedule change. Dr. McCullough has been the compass and the oar this year at SCHS with MTSS. She has organized very successful monthly meetings with grade level teachers to focus on students on the "watchlists". She has provided data that is easy to read with students that need to be named and claimed. At our January school-wide MTSS team meeting she shared one of the best presentations that I have seen in education that showed the progress in all areas of educating the whole child and showed specific names of students that were not longer on the "watch list" because they had made great improvements since the beginning of the year. Amazing work done exemplifying how MTSS should work to benefit our students."

Mr. Davis has gone above and beyond to support his students this semester! Not only did he fully embrace essential standards work, but he also dedicated countless hours after school, working with struggling students to help them avoid first-semester failures. His efforts didn’t stop there—he developed a standards-based credit recovery plan to give every student the opportunity to succeed. His unwavering commitment to student success makes a real difference in the classroom. We appreciate you, Mr. Davis!

Mrs. Dunaway is a beautiful example of the boat, compass, and the oar. She is wise beyond her years and her professionalism with staff, students, and parents sets an example daily. She cares deeply for our students and gives unselfishly with a firm consistency that builds strong trusting relationships. She has a vision and creativity that is seen in the incredible SEL lessons and Mental Health Presentations that she creates for the students at SCMS. She also uses her oars to not only meet the needs of students but to organize staff activities and treats to build culture in our building. She is a rock star counselor and administrator.

Chase is a wonderful addition to SCES. He goes above and beyond for the kids and staff at our school. Even on NTI days, he spends his time helping staff prepare materials for instruction! He is also very positive and a friendly face to both students and staff no matter the challenges they may be facing! In addition to the great things he does during the school day, he also is the sponsor of our sports club which is very popular for students! We are blessed to have him as part of our SCES family!

Maddy Newnam goes above and beyond to give students everything they need to be successful and to develop independence and confidence. Maddy sacrifices her time to help all of the 7th grade teachers meet the needs of all students, even when it is not her direct responsibility. In addition, Maddy is an exemplary team member, a new NBCT educator, and a wonderful person. We could not do our jobs as effectively without her giving and self-sacrificing attitude, and the joy she brings to our team.

National Honor Society hosting free day care on Saturday!

Spencer County Community, Due to forecasted inclement weather tomorrow during the early morning commute and through the afternoon, Spencer County Schools will utilize NTI Day #6 on Tuesday, February 11th, 2025. Happy Monday, Spencer County! I wanted to give our community a heads-up about tomorrow’s (Tuesday, February 11, 2025) forecasted winter weather and the potential for school closure. This decision could be challenging due to uncertain timing and temperature shifts—just a few degrees or hours could significantly impact conditions. Along with frozen precipitation, flooding is also a concern. Our team will participate in a National Weather Service update this afternoon and closely monitor local forecasts. While we may not be able to decide today or tonight, we will announce any closures by 5 AM tomorrow. In the meantime, we encourage students, staff, and families to prepare for a potential Non-Traditional Instruction (NTI) day.
